Anahita Norouzi – Contemporary Art
Challenge: Renowned artist Anahita Norouzi was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Sobey Art Award, which celebrates and supports contemporary visual arts in Canada. For her submission, she envisioned an ambitious 8 feet tall by 13 feet wide art piece representing a lost Iranian artifact. With less than five weeks until the exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada, she needed a partner to help bring her vision to life quickly and accurately.
Solution: Anahita approached our 3D printing services to create a large-scale, three-dimensional canvas for her artwork. We proposed using our advanced FDM 3D printing technology to manufacture the structure using PLA plastic, a sustainable and versatile material. We had the opportunity to work together on previous work so Anahita knew she could count on us to bring her vision to life.
Process:
- Consultation: We worked closely with Anahita to understand her artistic vision and gather detailed specifications for the project.
- Design: We created a 3D model of the canvas based on a replica Iranian artifact, ensuring it met the desired dimensions and aesthetic through the use of 3D scanning.
- Segmentation: Due to the size of the piece, the model was divided into smaller, manageable sections for printing.
- Printing: Using our high-capacity 3D printer farm, we produced over 100 kg of PLA plastic parts, ensuring consistent quality and detail throughout.
- Assembly: The printed sections were carefully assembled using plastic welding to create the final 8 feet by 13 feet structure, ready for Anahita to apply her artistic touch.
As an additional challenge, the structured had to be easily assembled and disassembled so it could fit through standard double doors. This meant creating sections that had to secured such that they were well aligned relative to each other and look seamless.
Results/Benefits:
- Rapid Turnaround: Our team successfully completed the project within the tight five-week deadline, enabling Anahita to exhibit her artwork at the National Gallery of Canada on time.
- Precision and Quality: The 3D-printed canvas accurately represented the lost artifact replica, providing a stunning base for Anahita’s creativity.
- Recognition: Anahita’s unique and captivating art piece, made possible by our 3D printing services, gained attention and acclaim at the prestigious Sobey Art Award exhibition.
